Over the empty schoolyard to the west of my backyard, sunsets light the end of my days and I often try to position myself to catch a glimpse regardless of what I might be up to.
Sunrises, on the other hand, are often missed, as buildings block much of the view and I’m either running around to get ready for work or sleeping in when they happen.
It was then this morning while enjoying my breakfast, when a glance out a north-east window revealed the blends of soft pinks and crimsons that celebrate a new day’s dawning, that I felt as delighted as a child on their birthday. I had received a lovely gift. And even though the red sky in the morning adage is not a harbinger of good things to come weather-wise, I considered myself blessed to have caught sight of it.
Sunrises and sunsets are used as backgrounds for inspirational quotes, or as images of comfort and solace. There is something about their omnipotent beauty that both stirs the soul and calms it. Proving my point are these gorgeous photos:
